Juke Box - Episode 5
Heavy 'metal' keyboard music from the 18th Century.
Hello again and welcome to another installment of Ol’ Doc’s Juke Box.
Today the Mighty Wurlitzer presents the complete harpsichord concerti of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, the eldest son of Johann Sebastian.
Being a former FM radio jazz DJ and professional church singer, my musical interests are many and varied. This is my sub-Stack for sharing music both close to my heart and worthy of your time.
Feel free to leave a comment, including suggestions for future episodes.
Friedemann, although the eldest and perhaps the most gifted of the sons of Bach, was not the most successful — click on his name above for his bio.
However, his music is straight down the fairway of 18th Century musical sensibility, and if you love the metallic timbre of the harpsichord, Friedemann’s legacy will not disappoint. (His younger brother Carl Philipp Emanuel was more fond of the gut-strung clavichord, which was also the favorite of their dad…as a bonus to those who are paying attention, here’s some of CPE’s music for the clav.)
